If you had to pick one state to go hiking in Australia, you would be hard pressed find a better one than the island state of Tasmania in the country’s south. Of course, there is the exceedingly popular Cradle Mountain National Park, which is famous for a reason, and visited by busloads of tourists daily. However, look beyond that jewel and you will discover peace and beauty in abundance. A trek through the Walls of Jerusalem National Park or up onto Frenchmans Cap for example is equally as spectacular and far less populated and if you really want time alone in the wilderness the remote South East offers the real deal. For the less brave something like Wineglass Bay in Freycinet National Park is nothing short of glorious and achievable in only a few steep minutes walking. Lastly the state capital of Hobart never fails of impress. I mean a big city with ocean, river, and snowcapped mountain all in one spot. Fair warning, you might love it so much you end up living there.
